Footstool, from the French "tabourette", is a low, upholstered, wicker, wire etc. seating furniture without backrest and armrests, intended as a seat for one person.
The original draft was the four-legged or three-legged stool used by breeders of cattle for milking farm animals. Later, in the 17th century, is becoming a popular furniture type of european interior culture as a complement to the dressing tables, or solitary complement placed along the wall. Footstools became the most populat mainly in Baroque and Rococo period.
